Cover Story From Singapore’s Teens Magazine, January 2010 edition:
(Not an actual interview, but just a mashup of various past interviews (and radio interview cuts) that were done in Korean, and translated into English.
Some sentences were even blatantly taken from Dramabeans previous translations (copied and pasted word by word) without proper credits to Dramabeans.
Not cool, Teens Magazine……. Simply not cool….)
Island Escape
We reckon FT Island must love Singapore to bits! By Hye-mun
Perhaps it’s because we’re famous for being an island nation, just like their band name. Or maybe it’s because we’ve got passionate fans who are not afraid of showing their love for them.
But whatever the reason, K-pop band FT Island seems to love our little island deeply. Why else would they visit us three times over less than six months?
Since the last time we caught up with Jonghoon, Hongki, Jaejin, Seunghyun and Minhwan, all of them have been keeping busy, both with individual and solo activities. Three of the members have even gotten together to form a separate group and released a single!
Let’s find out what has been keeping the boys busy…
Bitten by the Acting Bug
After Minhwan’s drama in the daily drama The Road Home, Hongki has had a turn in a drama too.
While he made his acting debut as a child actor, Hongki recently wowed audiences in the drama You’re Beautiful.
He played the role of Jeremy, an overseas Korean who grew up in England and returned to his motherland to be a member of the boyband A.N.JELL.
“When I’m a singer, I feel the thrill onstage; if I’m acting, I develop feelings for the screen,” he revealed when asked about the differences between acting and singing.
So did Hongki get along as well with his co-stars as he does with his fellow members, which included actor Jang Geunseok and Hongki’s labelmate Jung Yonghwa of the band CN Blue?
“…. Hongki was a little shy at first, but everyone was surprised at how quickly we became friends. He says he’s not even worried about being misunderstood if we went on a trip together!” is co-star, actress Park Shinhye revealed about how the cast got along on a set.
For Hongki, this experience has given him the opportunity to meet new friends. “When working with FT Island, when I get really tired, I can get bad-tempered. But here, when I get tired, I get to joke around with Yonghwa and Geunseok hyung (=older brother). When I arrive at the set in the mornings, Yonghwa pounds on my car window. I’m a little reserved, but we became friends right away… When I see Geunseok, he glares first. And I talk a lot with Shinhye, I don’t have time to feel depressed,” he grins.
The other members think that Hongki has given a great performance. “When I found out that his character in the drama was a drummer, I did ask him how he would be able to handle the drums. As the date for filming got closer, [Hongki] would practice till the wee hours of the morning. It was tough, but he’s done really well,” Minhwan says.
FT Triple
While Hongki has been busy filming his drama, FT Island members Jaejin, Jonghono and Minhwan have formed the unit group FT Triple. “The idea for the group came when we were preparing for our concert in Japan, and we thought about doing the same in Korea. When the opportunity came along, we decided to just go for it,” Minhwan said.
In the team, Jaejin takes lead vocals, with Jonghoon as the second vocalist and keyboards, and Minhwan continuing on the drums. The trio made their debut on the repackaged release of FT Island’s latest release Double Date, which had two discs – One Date, and Two Date.
Two Date contained three tracks by FT Triple, including the title track “Love Letter”.
“The song is a letter you wish you could write to an ex-girlfriend because you worry about her, asking questions like ‘Are you eating well though I’m not around?’ and ‘Are you doing well without me?’. But you can’t actually ask her about it, because you’ve already broken up,” Jaejin explains.
It was a big change for bassist Jaejin, who took Hongki’s place as lead singer in FT Triple. “My image as a bassist for FT Islad, and main vocalist for FT Triple are very different. You could say that it’s a little empty with only three of us onstage, but I think that’s okay – thanks to good camera angles. But the most amazing thing is that now, yous ee my face for more than half of a three-minute song – it’s quite amazing.” Jaejin laughs.
Exam Fever
While Jaejin has been busy with preparing for their concerts and with activities for FT Triple, he’s also had to mug for his college entrance exams, which were held on 12 Nov 2009.
When asked how he found the papers, he felt that his Mathematics paper was the toughest, but feels that he will do better than expected.
“Funnily enough, I completed my paper really quickly. When I looked at the other students after I finished the paper, they were all scribbling furiously!” he laughed.
While most students look forward to the end of exams so they can relax, Jaejin lamented that he was too busy with preparing for the group’s upcoming concert tour. There is one thing that he’s looking forward to – finding a girlfriend in university! “I want to be part of a CC – a campus couple!” he declared.
Asian Activities
While FT Island has kicked off their concert tour in Korea, they are also gearing up for activities all over Asia.
Their first overseas stop in 2010 will be in Singapore for a fansigning and meeting session.

Fresh from their short trip last December 2009 for Singapore’s Sundown Festival – Seoul’d Out Combined Concert, popular 5-member Korean idol band FT Island is planning to visit their fans again at the end of January 2010 in an exclusive Fanmeeting and Fansign event.
Tickets sales began last Saturday, 19 December 2009, 1pm local time, at IMM Mall, which is one of the sponsors for the event. Limited number of tickets are sold at S$150 (Fanmeet + Fansign) and S$100 (Fanmeet only).
Despite the tickets’ pricing, throngs of fans still queued up to buy the tickets. Some fans even started queueing up at the mall’s entrance from 10pm the previous night, just to get their hands on the S$150 tickets.

Their efforts to come early paid off and they managed to get the tickets they wanted. The rest of the S$150 tickets were sold out within the first 30 minutes of tickets sales. Meanwhile, 80% of the remaining S$100 tickets were sold during the first day sale.

This will be FT Island’s third visit to Singapore, after their first showcase in June 2009 and a combined concert performance in December 2009.
FT Island’s Fanmeeting will be held on 30 January 2010, at Dragonfly, St. James Powerstation, while their Fansigning will be held on 29 January 2010 at IMM Garden Plaza.

Kokokoreano got a press pass for the 2009 Sundown Festival’s Press Conference for FT Island, and she shared with us all the goodies from the presscon:
Interview from the media:
Qn 1. How do you feel being part of this inaugural Kpop festival along-side your fellow Kpop artistes?
[Hong Ki] From the last time, this is our 2nd time here. Really thank you for inviting us here again. In future, we hope to have a concert of our own here.
Qn 2. You have a very big following here in Singapore. What do you have to say to fans who have bought the tickets to the event?
Well it has been awhile since we last came here and I’m really excited to be here. I’m really glad to see all of you here and the opportunity to meet you fans is a real good thing.
[Asked by Kokokoreano] Qn 3. Is Hong Ki’s character in the popular drama series ‘You’re Beautiful’ as Jeremy similar or different to his character in real life?
[Hong Ki] *Looks at me and ask in Korean, “Do you think it’s the same or different”.* Well, I would say about 70% of our characters are the same?
A fan account featured by Kokokoreano:
‘Fan-account’ by Dorothea from skipfire@lj
FT Island was the 4th group to come out. I heard some loud scream from the fans waiting outside, which meant that FT Island was somewhere in the lobby!
The five members walked into the conference room and flashed smiles. I died! It was my first time seeing them, so I was really lucky to see them so close! How can they be so good looking and charismatic?
Hongki had a red right eye and very dry chapped lips.
All the others looked happy and well. Hongki did most of the talking, alongside Minhwan.
Hongki was asked how similar was his character in real life compared to his character in You’re Beautiful, Jeremy. He was so cute to rebutt the interviewer with a “Do you think we’re similar?” jokingly.

But he said that he was 70% similar to Jeremy in terms of character. I agree. He even shouted at the end of the interview, “LET’S PARTY” or something along that line.
Someone asked if they needed to have a female member in their band, what character would they want the girl to have. Hongki said “glamourous” in English, slightly mispronounced lol.
The interviewer couldn’t catch the word so there was this flurry of ‘glamourous’ in the air. The final glamourous Hongki said sounded like camourous rofl!!!! So cute. The entire conference room burst out in laughter ~
Despite Hongki’s red eye, he was still verrrrrrry hyper today! He was such a cutie, pulling down his lower eyelid to reveal his red eye to everyone rofl.
Then Minhwan just reached over immediately to cover his eye lol!
Jaejin is good looking as hell hehehe. Even better looking upclose. Seunghyun was very friendly, though quiet. He did peace signs and waved to the cameras.
Jonghun was making cute faces in the background during the interview, puffing up his cheeeeeeeeeeks. They were all signing albums during the interview and damn, I REGRET NOT BRINGING MINE ALONG.

After the press conference was over, the security guard let us back into the conference room where I picked up the pen Jonghun used hehe. They were having a one to one interview in the next room and we could hear them talk through the wall.
One last look before I left. When the interview room’s door opened, I saw Hongki briefly! This time he put on a pair of heart-shape shades in white, and looked even better than ever. ;D

Was going to post this earlier this week, but couldn’t find the time >.<
A Korean photographer based in Singapore, Kim Gidoong-nim, took lots of pictures of last week’s Singapore Sundown Festival 2009, and his FT Island photos were just…. beautiful and moving. Too bad she doesn’t share the higher resolution, HQ version… but I’m not fussy. These pictures are already a treasure for me ^__^
But don’t trust me, biased fannoona. Check out the photos yourself as below~

Ok, if you are not tired yet from all the Sundown Festival overdose this week,….
Here are some more fancams from the Departure day.
If you’ve had enough, then just skip this post, please ^_^
The boys were supposed to leave Singapore for Korea on Asiana Airlines at 9:40pm on Sunday, 13 December 2009, but later they changed their flight to the 00:30 midnight one.
They crossed hundreds of local fans at the airport, without any security around them, only relying on the CEO and managers to lead the way. Luckily the fans were considerate enough to let them pass through, while they ran through the crowds.
Probably used to the star treatment, they didn’t look very worried or afraid of the fans, except for the last stretch when they bottlenecked at the entrance of customs. I even thought Jonghoon was rather amused by the experience. =)

Hongki was evidently brimming with fanservice.
Did you also catch Jaejinnie bowing thank you to the fans?
What a polite boy ^__^
Here are a few other fancams with clearer view of the boys at the customs:
